At the beginning of the 2016/2017 season, David Watkins was appointed as the Coaching Co-ordinator for the Hills Raiders Basketball Association (HRBA). David was employed in order to help develop the Association’s junior teams to be ready for the new stadium and to assist them in their progress into WABL and SBL.
David has been coaching for the past 30 years. Although his experience is vast, it has primarily been in a developmental role. “I have a great passion for the sport and the development of the game. But the main thing is the development of young people to help them achieve goals not only in basketball but also life” says David.
His experience includes a State under 18’s Men’s Coach, D League and SBL Men’s Coach and Wanneroo’s Junior Development Officer. David also attended a Level 3 Coaches course at the Australian Institute for Sport, in Canberra.
“This association has a special opportunity to develop a culture second to none in WA basketball. They already have a strong family connection. My opportunity is to create a self-fulfilling culture in establishing a way in which the Association plays” says David.
David attends game nights on most Tuesdays and Fridays. If you are a Coach and have any questions or just need some advice, please feel free to go and have a chat with David.
