Raiders Ramble – When underdogs break the rules

Edition Nine – 11 December 2017

Coach Bill’s Message for the week

“Don’t let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.”

John Wooden

Welcome to the ninth edition of Raiders Ramble, our last before the Christmas break and Bill’s opportunity to share some words from the heart.

Bill would like to thank everyone for their support in his role as Coaches Coordinator.  He has enjoyed the interaction and hopes that he has been of help.  In the short time that he has been at Raiders he has found a terrific, vibrant basketball community with caring and passionate coaches and he is excited about what the new year will bring with exciting new initiatives and the opening of the Mundaring Arena.

For the final newsletter before the break, Bill would like to share an article by Malcolm Gladwell, a staff writer at the The New Yorker since 1996, he was named one Time Magazines 100 Most Influential People and is a personal favourite author of Bill’s wife.

“David’s victory over Goliath, in the biblical account, is an anomaly.  It was not.  Davids win all the time.”  Gladwell’s article shares a viewpoint that to win David needs to play to his/her strengths, throw the ‘norm’ or “Goliath’s rules” out the window and find what works for you (or your team).

This article “How David Beats Goliath: when underdogs break the rules.” is a 10 page article but well worth the read!  Hope you enjoy it.
