The Preliminary Final was just as exciting and a close game as the Semi’s last week with Panthers Black and Gidge Hawks going end to end with 3’s and contested rebounds. The tall men didn’t get much joy under the basket this week with both teams double teaming the centres.  The game was all tied up at 26 all with 30 seconds to half time when a Panthers Black forward  was fouled driving to the basket, with the points to count a bonus shot was awarded….lucky for Gidge it rimmed out.  Panthers Black started the second half 2 points up but that was quickly overturned with a 3 from Gidge Hawks.  Both teams became unsettled in the second half with shots missing the hoop. After a number of quick breaks Panthers Black lead by 2 points with only 1.40 minutes to go.  Gidge Hawks were fouled on a drive and the 2 free throws made the game a draw.  A Panther’s shot missed, Gidge rebounded and suck a 3….game over.  Gidge Hawks won the game 39 to Panthers Black 36.  Great game guys!  The Grand Final will see Gidge Hawks play The Brewers in a 2nd semi final rematch next Tuesday commencing at 7pm followed Award Presentations.

The 1st Semi Final between Panthers Black and Gidge Thunder was all tied up at half time with quick hands and fast breaks at both ends of the court.  After half time the game was there for the taking and Panthers Black took the lead by 5 points with some great rebounds and shooting from Callan who scored 20 points for the game.  Gidge Thunder bounced back with a couple of great 3s from Ben and despite getting into foul trouble 10 minutes into the half making their already depleted side down to 4 players, the game was still anyones’ game.  In the end Panthers Black put in a strong team effort and went on to win the game 39 points to 32.  Panthers Black now head to the Preliminary Final against Gidge Hawks next week.

In the 2nd Semi Finals between The Brewers and Gidge Hawks history repeated itself with Gidge Hawks challenging the league leaders with rebounds from Josh and quick hands from Hayden to be leading by 8 points at half time.   The lead changed throughout the second half with Gidge Hawks rattling the Brewers by stopping the quick breaks and drives to the basket. Toby from The Brewers was playing a great hard running game with strong rebounds which continued into the second half, scoring 15 points to see The Brewers win 29 points to 27.

The Brewers now go into the Grand Final and Gidge Thunder will have a second chance against Panthers Black in the prelim.
