When you think of life in the Perth Hills, one could be excused for assuming a small, quiet place with more kangaroos than people.  You may also think Hills people live a rather sedentary lifestyle.  Well, if you were at the Mundaring Recreation Centre on Tuesday and Friday nights, you would be pleasantly surprised.  It is basketball central!

img_2214With a record breaking 157 teams registered for the 2016/2017 season, the Hills Raiders Basketball Association (HRBA) have had to roster 5 time slots, over 8 courts, on both nights in order to accommodate all of the games.  The new stadium, which is due for completion at the end of 2017, will be a welcome relief to the HRBA.  With 4 extra indoor courts to add to the current 8 outdoor courts, they will be able to increase their registrations even more.  The interest is certainly there.

More than 1,250 players have formed teams from suburbs including Mundaring, Sawyers Valley, Chidlow, Gidgegannup, Mt Helena, Parkerville, and Darlington.  There are male and female teams, as well as a mixed adults.  Age groups include Under 8’s, 10’s, 12’s, 14’s,16’s, 18’s and adults.img_2194

With sausage sizzles on a Friday night, playing basketball in the Hills is a very enjoyable and entertaining evening.  With a relaxed community spirited atmosphere, people living in the Hills are having a ball of a time.
