About the Role

Hills Raiders Basketball Association (HRBA) is the heart of basketball in the Mundaring Hills, a welcoming, community-driven organisation delivering domestic competitions, WABL pathways, inclusive programs, school partnerships, and coach and official development.

As our most senior staff member, the General Manager leads the entire organisation, translating the Board’s strategic direction into action, building a high-performing culture, growing participation, and positioning HRBA as a recognised leader in community basketball across the Hills.

This is a high-impact role for someone who is both a strategic thinker and a hands-on operator, who thrives leading teams, building community, and making things happen.

Core Deliverables

Strategic leadership & governance

  • Implement the HRBA 2030 Strategic Plan; keep staff and volunteers aligned to organisational goals.
  • Partner closely with the Board, providing timely reporting on operations, finances, and strategic progress.
  • Represent HRBA at Basketball WA forums, industry bodies, and community events.
  • Act as key liaison with affiliated clubs, fostering a ‘one Hills Raiders’ culture.

People leadership & culture

  • Lead, develop, and retain a high-performing team of staff and volunteers.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive workplace culture that attracts quality people.
  • Champion volunteer recognition, onboarding, and development.

Participation, pathways & performance

  • Provide strategic oversight for all programs – Aussie Hoops, domestic competitions, WABL, NBL1, Ability Hoops, and school programs.
  • Lead the NBL1 working group, including development of a business plan and pathway in collaboration with Basketball WA.
  • Build inclusive and emerging formats to grow accessibility and participation across all ages and abilities.

Financial management & governance

  • Lead the annual budget process; ensure financial performance is transparent and sustainable.
  • Develop a diversified revenue strategy including sponsorships, grants, merchandise, and events.
  • Oversee risk management, compliance, child safeguarding, and member protection practices.

Facilities & infrastructure

  • Lead advocacy for additional court space and facility improvements with local government and the Arena Working Group.
  • Oversee digital infrastructure including competition management systems, live scoring, and data capability.

Community engagement & partnerships

  • Strengthen relationships with local schools, community organisations, local government, and sponsors.
  • Build HRBA’s profile as a trusted, inclusive community hub and leader in Hills basketball.

Selection Criteria

Essential and Desirable

  • Senior leadership experiene in a complex, multi-functional environment.
  • Proven operational and financial management capability
  • Strong understanding of community sport or recreation
  • Experience delivering strategic and operational plans
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • People management and volunteer leadership skills
  • Knowledge of NFP governance, risk and compliance
  • Current Working with Children Check, Police Clearance and driver’s licence.

Desirable experience and skill sets

  • Knowledge of Basketball WA pathways and programs
  • Experience in sponsorship, revenue generation, or grant writing
  • Community engagement or marketing strategy experience
  • Familiarity with sport facility planning or asset management
  • Familiarity with competition management and/or CRM systems
  • First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Working conditions

This is a full-time hybrid role, with the expectation that some hours will be worked on-site at Mundaring Arena in Mundaring, WA, and the majority of the role will be completed from your personal home office. A laptop and mobile phone will be provided to support your work. The position requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays, particularly during the basketball season. In addition, you will be required to travel across the Hills region and the greater Perth area as required by the role.
