MENUMENU

The best coaches continually challenge themselves ... maintaining a 'beginners mind' when it comes to their professional development.

There are many attributes that shape a great coach but there are seven essential traits no youth basketball coach can succeed without:
  • Passion. We want players to learn to love basketball. …
  • Healthy Communication. …
  • Positive Leadership. …
  • Basketball IQ. …
  • High Energy. …
  • Continuing Development. …
  • Involvement.

There are many resources available for coaches.  To help our coaches develop their skills and knowledge and assist them to create engaging and robust coaching practices HRBA has developed a Coaching Resources Manual.  The Manual is designed as a resource for both beginners and experienced coaches and includes a range of drills, practice plans, player homework sheets, information on offence motions and some useful information handouts.

The Manual is written in easy to understand language designed to uncomplicate the game of basketball.  We hope that you find the information useful and that it becomes a tool in your coaching kit.

There are many great online resources but we recommend you check out the Coaches Clipboard website.   This resource has over a 1000 pages of strategy, offences, defence plays and drills as well as coach discussion topics ranging from coaching philosophy to teaching progressions.

If you need any further help or would like to discuss any of the information contained in the Coaching Resource Manual please feel free to chat to Coach Bill Edwards, HRBA Coaching Coordinator at the courts, on 0413 431 591 or email at bill_edwards-coach@bigpond.com.
